Lunch at London City Airport

The journey home! Once again as in Belfast City Airport, London city Airport was fine. Again no one bellowing unintelligible commands at security meant the whole experience was perfectly fine.

I must admit, based on experience at other airports, I faced my London trip with more than a little trepidation. I needn’t have worried. I wasn’t singled out to have my case contents to be displayed for all to view, just efficient service.

I wonder if this more positive experience of air travel was due to the recruitment policies at both airports or is simply a management style that actually cares about the passenger experience.

One comment I would make for the light rail at LCY is that in the event of a failure information is provided. I had no idea where Mudchute was and it didn’t appear on any displayed map. A friendly local suggested I change at Canning Town. This also worked on my return journey where the situation persisted.

I had printed out the Northern Ireland Railways timetable applicable to my journey home but was surprised to find my train arriving much earlier than expected, and it was an express! It seems that whilst I was in London, Northern Ireland had abandoned much of its covid measures meaning that NIR had returned to normal timetabling.

I have tried to visit different places in recent London trips, on this occasion visiting St Pauls Cathedral, Battersea power station and Westfield shopping centre. Throughout my visit I felt safe with the exception of a first visit to Brick Lane, it was awful!

In general I found London to be a friendlier place than I remembered, people apologised if they accidentally bumped into you and most people I came into contact with in shops etc. were friendly and helpful. One notable exception were cyclists.
