As always Belfast City Airport BHD didn’t disappoint, no issues transiting to airside. Which was good considering the state of nervous exhaustion!
Netherlands required a Lateral Flow test prior to departure and although the Randox on site facility was excellent , the worry on the day and the days prior had taken its toll. Thankfully all was well. My test had been pre booked and went smoothly.
Aircraft arrived and we departed on time. For my height the seat legroom was just about adequate for a relative short flight, another passenger perhaps well over 6′ had to be moved. He simply could not fit into the seat.
It was my first time travelling with KLM and inevitably comparison was made with my earlier flight with British Airways. Not quite up to BA standard but perfectly adequate and would certainly travel with them again. It is so useful to have an airport more or less on the doorstep with such connections available.
Schiphol presented quite a trek to the baggage claim and passport control. It was very busy and perhaps somewhat understaffed. Passport control was friendly, polite and uneventful.
Catching the train was a little difficult, I had downloaded the app and pre purchased my ticket but could not find where to scan the QR code on my phone. The lovely staff at the NS ticket office explained that I only needed to scan on exit at Amsterdam Centraal. Also the videos on YouTube didn’t seem to mention more than one escalator down to platform level.
Train journey was fine with most passengers leaving at Sloterdijk, I had considered staying here as hotels were somewhat cheaper.
My hotel, InnHotels, was excellent. It had been recommended and for me in a very convenient location.
