Day three begins with a visit to the terrace at NEMO, this had been recommended as having excellent views over Amsterdam. Although I didn’t visit the museum itself I settled for a look around the shop. After making a purchase the lovely staff member allowed me to use the lift up to the terrace, such a lovely area to sit and have a coffee whilst absorbing the views.
Next stop was Amsterdam Centraal station for my adventure to Utrecht. Whilst researching my visit to Amsterdam I had come across videos of Utrecht and thought it looked worth considering. Also worth considering is Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) app, with all the necessary information of train times, cost, platform and train final destination the journey was made easy. Also provided is the stops on the way, I didn’t find that the stations were all that well signposted as they would be here in UK.
Utrecht was lovely!
It seems Utrecht sits a little higher in the countryside. Canals needed to be lower so a loading area was created where merchants could then move produce up to street level. It creates a lovely situation for bars and restaurants to be on two levels.
Cathedral of St. Martin is spectacular, really worth a visit with its magnificent stained glass windows featuring both old and new testaments. The Dom is being renovated so is shrouded in scaffolding.
Adjacent to the station is a very modern shopping centre, HOOG CATHARIJNE, beyond which is a open air market.
I so enjoyed Utrecht would love to return perhaps staying for a couple of days. its an easy trip from Amsterdam which I would absolutely recommend.
The rest of the evening was spent wandering around Amsterdam.
