Day three begins at Westfield Shopping Centre, it massive with a lot of surrounding businesses. It is very reminiscent of the large American Malls with a lot of variety in shops and food offerings in a spacious setting.
The usual tourist trek follows with Green Park to Buckingham Palace, the Mall, National Police Memorial, Trafalgar Square etc. I was exceptionally lucky with the weather which had steadily improved from a very dull start, I missed any rain that appeared occasionally.
Returned to hotel for a shower and a change of clothes as I had booked a theatre ticket. I had considered Les Miserable but opted for Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
Although we had seen this performance many times previously it never fails to disappoint. The opening scene where the chandelier comes to life and sweeps over the audience in the posh seats is simply magical. On our first visit we had obtained front of stage seats and were treated to this amazing opening.
Its perhaps worth mentioning the staff. In covid times checks were made outside the theatre. With glasses, groves and a smartphone to contend with the covid app splashed open only to rapidly disappear. The guy checking didn’t make a fuss, simply said you are ok I saw it when I fumbled to to recover the display. This with the girl checking my ticket, also on smartphone, directed me appropriately. Basically my lovely evening at the theatre began before I even entered. So much appreciated.
Show completed I walked down Whitehall to Westminster and Tube back to Blackfriars.
