Todays plan was to take tube to Green Park and walk down towards the Mall then past Buckingham Palace and onwards to Westminster Abbey. Normally a quiet walk in the morning but on this occasion there were people everywhere. Turns out I had stumbled across the changing of the guard. Firstly the Queen drove past followed a short time later by the King. Such a treat to see both, camera ready! Of course not!!
Onward then to Westminster Abbey and was shocked to find that all tickets for the day were sold. Cant help but wonder what Jesus thinks about this. Bit like a windows DOS virus.
Onward then past Downing street to the National Gallery for a first visit. So surprised, well worth a visit even if not into art. Some of the paintings are stand out remarkable, impressive even if you have no interest whatsoever.
lunch beckons which was served in the restaurant below St Martin in the fields, lovely food in a suburb location within the cellar.
For my evening entertainment I had booked a performance of Carmen at the Sadler’s Wells theatre.
it was an experience! Something different perhaps, the precision was breathtaking on a stage of 3 sided props which were rotated and moved throughout the performance. I was entertained but won’t be visiting that version of Carmen anytime soon. But I will attend the theatre on a future visit.
My concern was the tube station Angel Islington. Mostly for my return home, not sure of the area which I only know from monopoly. I needn’t have worried as half the theatre and some of the orchestra were also heading to Angel. Safety in numbers.
