Gdansk

A really superb visit to Gdansk in Poland at the Beginning of December 2024.

I flew with RyanAir which is something I swore I would never do. But as some folk comment they take you places other do not. My reasoning for visiting Gdansk was prompted by comments made by a relative who visited his firms office in Gdansk a number of times and loved the City.

Also recommended was the pier at Sopot which was so pretty but cold. I could imagine how packed it would be in summer. Definitely an upmarket resort.

Another fabulous visit was a day trip to Warsaw, I travelled on the high speed train in first class which is something I could never do here in UK. I was even served a meal and coffee etc.
Warsaw was well worth the long journey but obviously so much more spread out than Gdansk. I had a route pre planned which I accomplished mostly. I missed out in getting down as far as the river so that’s for another time.

The reason I mostly accomplished my plans was that my daughter was in contact with a Polish Facebook friend and I was receiving live updates as it were. One of his recommendations and perhaps the highlight of my Warsaw trip was their war memorial . It’s a must must see if you ever visit.

Gdansk was fabulous, a very pretty compact old town with a spectacular Christmas market. So much to see and do but perhaps most of all I loved the people. When they spoke English it was what we would call the Queens English, heaven knows what they though of my County Down accent!

Throughout my visit I felt save, but more than that, I felt comfortable as if amongst our own people. Perhaps it was because it was a place populated by its own.
